The Rainbow

Lawrence started to pen The Rainbow in 1913 and for the next two years tried to complete it. He found the material for the novel difficult to contain and in January 1915 he decided to make two novels out of the manuscript which he had originally called The Sisters. Much of the material was put aside and became Women in Love (1920). The first part was developed and The Rainbow was published by Methuen on 30th September 1915.
